Dear Parents and Students
As the HSE have issued a closure notice to all schools from March 13th to March 19th the Knocklyon Concert Band will follow the protocol and close the music school.
We will do our best to make up any classes missed and will be in touch regarding this when the school reopens.
As of now our ABRSM exams scheduled for the 6th and 7th of April are going ahead as planned. We recommend all students to continue their practice. If anything changes we will contact you immediately. Please note accompaniment sessions will be postponed until further notice.
We thank you for your cooperation during this time and hope that you all stay safe.
Thank you,
KCBS Committee.

Clonakilty 2019

Our Junior Band thoroughly enjoyed themselves at the 40th South Of Ireland Band Campionships in Clonakilty over the weekend of July 6th where they competed in the Junior Category against some of the top brass bands in their category. They didn't take first prize this time and congratulations to the category winners St Mary's Brass and Reed Youth Band from Kingscourt.

The weather couldn't have been better and there was excellent accommodation and plenty of room for activities at the Russagh Mill Hostel, Skibbereen where the band were based for the weekend.

As usual there was music in the streets again this year so a big "Thanks to Clonakilty" for having us and for such a warm welcome. Thanks to all the students, teachers, conductors, committee and parents for all their hard work getting the band to Cork and for their continued support throughout the year.
Have a great time during the summer break and hopefully we will see you all in September.

End of year concert May 29th 2019
A very successful end of year concert was enjoyed by parents, friends and supporters on May 29th in St Colmcille's Community School, Knocklyon where all of our musicians provided a fantastic display of musical talent. A huge thank you to the Defence Forces School of Music and the members of the No 1 Army Band who supported us on the night along with the Choirs from the transition year class at St. Mac Dara's Community College and Cheeverstown House.
Every year we present students displaying great dedication and development of musical ability with awards in various categories. This years winners were :
Ella O Dell - Junior Band Member of the Year Winner ...
Adam Tait - Senior Band Member of the Year Winner ...
Áine Dunner - Student of the Year Winner ...
And finally a big thank you to "The A Team" for their hard work in the promotion, set-up and take-down for the event - it wouldn't have taken place without you ...

We also have some great video of the performances on the night over on our YouTube Channel ..... Oh - and finally-finally - See you all next year for another great event.

The South of Ireland Band Championships will be a special occasion this year when Clonakilty celebrates the 40th year of the competition. This year will be a reunion for all of the competitors and supporters who travelled to Clon over the years and along with the popular street recitals and activities the weekend will be celebrated with a commemorative programme. You can read more about the championships on their website over here ... The KCBS have been keen travellers to Southern Cork for these competitions over the years and some of those trips are remembered in the albums below. | ||

WCHS leave Dublin on a high note
The Wetaskiwin Composite High School Choir and Concert Band ended their whistle-stop tour of Ireland last week with a spectacular evening of music and performance with the Knocklyon Concert Band in the Child Vision Centre over in Drumcondra.
A highlight of the evening was the performance by a piper accompanied by the Knocklyon Concert Band which you can watch here ...
The Canadians had a busy week in Ireland - starting over in Galway they made their way down through the Burren and on to Bunratty, finishing up in Dublin with the KCBS before heading home. Who knows - perhaps there will be a return visit to Alberta by the KCBS ?

Bake Sale brings in the dough ...

The KCBS committee held a very successful fund-raising "bake sale" on Sunday last which was very well supported by parents and friends. There was a delicious range of cakes and bakes on display made from the finest of ingredients.
We couldn't have provided such a wide range of cakes and bakes without the support of our members' parents and local businesses. Brambles in Knocklyon provided some very nice cakes as did Mannings Bakery in Tallaght.
Cakefield Avenue who produce bespoke cakes for all occasions were also very supportive.
A big thank you to Kenval from Quigleys Bakery in Nutgrove Shopping Centre, Rosanna of the Natural Bakery in Nutgrove, to Valerie of our own Supervalu in Knocklyon and to Sally in Tesco Rathfarnham.
Of course it wouldn't have been possible without a venue so a big thank you to the priests of St Colmcilles and the staff of the Iona Centre for allowing us to use their premises for the morning.
Finally a big Thank You to all our parents and friends who arrived on the day with cakes - and left with even more cakes - your support is much appreciated.
The KCBS Committee.
